Lute FP After conjuring PG to mind while reviewing another band, I finally pulled the trigger on this. I was never a huge PG fan, but recognize his place in the pantheon of popular culture and music. Lots of fantastic songs on this double album.

The only Peter Gabriel record that I ever bought was the single Games Without Frontiers.
Of course, I remember several of these tracks from when they were in the charts and decided to buy this album.
Not many established artists have their work on Bandcamp so it was refreshing to see Peter's back catalogue located here.
I would like to see many other artists use this app. Favorite track: Here Comes the Flood.

But seriously... I couldn't make up my mind, which PG album in HD glory to buy here next, because I have them all on CD (and I got So in HD elsewhere some years ago). So this vast compilation came to the rescue offering excellent value for money!

Well, and the music is great anyways - it's the mighty Peter Gabriel :-)

Almost impossible to choose a favourite so I went for Digging in the Dirt because it has my hero Peter Hammill doing background vocals! Favorite track: Digging in the Dirt.

Released thirteen years on from 1990’s 'Shaking The Tree' compilation, 'Hit' offers a much more voluminous overview of the Gabriel back catalogue.

The 30 track album (double CD) is an extensive and eclectic collection of Peter’s best known songs, together with, at the time, more recent tracks, previously unreleased material and new remixes, – a musical autobiography of a solo career which had spawned 14 albums over 25 years.

The album takes off nicely with David Longdon's "The Strangest Times", but then gets into immediate free fall and deeply underwater for the next few tracks, quite unexpectedly. Fortunately, it recovers with Nick D'Virgilio's "Apollo" (hey, this guy CAN write good music, although he hides this ability most of the time) and the remaining three tracks, one of which is another Longdon masterpiece.
